Common Wealth’s Youth Programs seeks two motivated and energetic individual to join our team as a part-time AmeriCorps Member. The AmeriCorps Member will help deliver our youth employment and financial education, job placement, and mentoring programs. Member will provide support and instruction to racially diverse youth from underprivileged backgrounds. Member will gain valuable experience teaching classes, mentoring teens, and planning programs. They will work in a team, develop critical thinking skills, and learn to assess and respond to a variety of situations creatively and deliberately. Common Wealth is a non-profit community development corporation in Madison, Wisconsin and a member of the Partners for After School Success (PASS) AmeriCorps Program.

AmeriCorps Members qualify for student loan deferment while earning a $2,215.14 education award to put toward college or student loan payments, and receive a living stipend of approximately $329 (pre-tax) every two weeks. Additional benefits include food stamps (if eligible). Applicants must be at least 18 years old with a high school degree or equivalent; be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or permanent resident; have a valid driver’s license; and be willing and able to provide at least 675 hours of service between January 9, 2018 and August 31, 2018.

Major Responsibilities
• Teach employment and financial education trainings and workshops with a co-worker
• Recruit youth for the programs and mentor them towards success in school and in the workplace
• Assist with the organization and coordination of trainings, workshops, field trips and special events
• Participate actively in staff meetings to plan programs and troubleshoot issues with youth
• Network with families, school personnel, volunteers, and staff from other community agencies
• Maintain written and computer records, data entry, file program and PASS reports, prepare program materials
• Attend weekly AmeriCorps member meetings and professional development trainings (Fridays 9:00-1:00)

• An eagerness to learn, develop a broad skill set, and challenge oneself in a team environment
• Experience and commitment to working with racially diverse youth from underprivileged backgrounds
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Bilingual in Spanish and/or Hmong
• Basic computer skills
