Common Wealth’s Youth Programs seeks one motivated and energetic individual to join our team as half-time AmeriCorps Members. The AmeriCorps Members will help deliver our youth employment and financial education, job placement, and mentoring programs. Members will provide support and instruction to racially diverse youth from underprivileged backgrounds. Members will gain valuable experience teaching classes, mentoring teens, and planning programs. They will work with a team, develop critical thinking skills, and learn to assess and respond to a variety of situations creatively and deliberately. Common Wealth Development is a non-profit community development organization in Madison, Wisconsin and a member of the Partners for After School Success (PASS) AmeriCorps Program.

Function: PASS AmeriCorps Members are responsible for providing extended learning programs and adult volunteer support as a member at Common Wealth. Specifically, members assist with the delivery of the Youth-Business Mentoring Program, Employment & Financial Literacy Workshops, Program for Entrepreneurial and Agricultural Training, and Wanda Fullmore Youth Internship Program, including the recruitment of program participants, arranging and conducting program workshops, mentoring youth, and facilitating job placement.

Organizational Relationships:

  • Responsible to the Youth Programs Manager and Director of Economic Development for the successful performance of assigned responsibilities and completion of performance evaluations
  • Participate in PASS in-service trainings as scheduled by the PASS Program Director and Coordinator

Position Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old with a high school degree or equivalent
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or permanent resident
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and regular access to a vehicle
  • Must meet AmeriCorps eligibility requirements
  • Be able to serve 675 hours of service from January 7, 2020 – August 31, 2020

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in arranging and conducting employment, financial education, and college access awareness trainings, workshops, and extended learning programs, including the Youth-Business Mentoring Program, Employment & Financial Literacy Workshops, Program for Entrepreneurial and Agricultural Training, and the Wanda Fullmore Youth Internship Program, and
  • Mentor youth to encourage successful employment and money management experiences
  • Recruit teen participants for all programming
  • Assist in organizing programming and volunteers, as needed; gather and track volunteer data
  • Meet with program participants to assist with facilitating the job placement process
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with teen participants, parents, school staff and volunteers
  • Maintain written and computer records of attendance, program participant status, and program activities
  • Gather and report outcome data for PASS using the Goal Setting Survey
  • Complete and submit PASS reports in a timely manner
  • Network with community members, school staff, and business partners
  • Attend and participate in Youth Programs staff meetings twice per week
  • Attend and participate in monthly Common Wealth all-staff meetings

Method of Accountability

  • Through oral reports at weekly meetings with the Youth Programs Manager
  • Through oral and written reports to the Youth Programs Manager and the Director of Economic Development
  • Through oral and written reports to the PASS Program Director
  • Through member evaluation

Standards of Performance

  • Meeting PASS and Youth Programs goals and objectives
  • Accessibility, responsiveness, and follow through to the Youth Programs Manager, Director of Economic Development, Common Wealth Executive Director, and PASS Program Director
