35 Years of Community Building, Arts, Housing, Jobs, and Youth
Common Wealth Development was created thirty-five years ago out of a commitment to preserve the vitality of Madison’s neighborhoods. Since that time, Common Wealth has participated in many projects to improve the housing and business climate of the neighborhood, and has initiated important community development projects.
Commonwealth is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. We are proud of what we have been able to accomplish through the years with our community partners.
We have been providing affordable housing including the Jenifer Place apartments across from Marquette Elementary School. We have also expanded our rental housing program to the Southwest Madison neighborhoods of Meadowood and Hammersley/Teresa Terrace.
To reflect these exciting programmatic and geographic expansions, we will be using a simpler name to better communicate what we are doing. We will now be known as Commonwealth, Inc. However, our core focus remains the same – to build a more connected community through affordable housing, financial literacy and job training for youth, support for small businesses and community organizing.
