In addition to our intensive Youth-Business Mentoring Program, Common Wealth Development also offers Employment and Financial Literacy Workshops. We collaborate with schools and other community agencies to offer these workshops to their students and participants. This enables these organizations to provide their students with a broader curriculum and us the opportunity to help more youth understand the basics of successful job hunting and money management.

Employment Skills: Tackling Job Search & Applications

SummitCreditUnionWorkshopThe employment portion of our workshops takes the mystery out of job search strategies and explains the secrets of effective job applications. In addition, mock interviews help students learn what it will be like having to answer typical interview questions. We focus on strengthening their skills and giving them the confidence to apply and interview successfully for their first job.

Financial Skills: Wisdom with Money

The financial component of our workshops then helps youth understand how to maximize their paycheck once they start earning one. We teach them the basics of saving and budgeting, help them understand financial institutions, and discuss some big mistakes to avoid.

Last year, 94% of our participants were students of color, and 96% qualified for the school free and reduced lunch program.
