Thank you for your interest in the Wanda Fullmore Youth Internship Program! This is a unique opportunity for Madison youth to get involved with local government, and gain training and employment. This program provides high school students with high-quality youth employment opportunities. In 2020, Common Wealth will work with the City to place 25 youth in summer internships.

Youth who are selected to participate in the program will receive:
• Mandatory pre-internship training
• An 8-week summer internship opportunity
• Regular mentoring and support from Common Wealth
• Mandatory weekly professional development training
• Starting at $10.50 per hour for their employment and training hours

Clerk’s Office
Community Development
Civil Rights
Economic Development
Fire Department
Housing Division
Human Resources
Madison Public Libraries
Parks Division
Public Health
Water Utility

To be eligible for the program, youth must reside in the City of Madison limits and must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States. Youth are considered individually, and preference will be given to those entering 11th or 12th grade for the 2020-2021 academic year and who face barriers to employment. Interested youth and their parents/guardians must complete the attached application packet and submit it at any of our open interview meetings listed below or directly to Common Wealth.

Open Interview Meeting Schedule:

To prioritize the health and safety of students and staff due to COVID-19, we will be cancelling all remaining open interviews for the Wanda Fullmore Internship effective immediately.

There will be more information about rescheduling some of these open interviews and an extension of the application time as more information about this outbreak comes in.

We want to make sure that students who are interested in the program are able to apply and not restricted due to not being at school but that their health and safety are prioritized.

A complete application MUST be turned in to a Common Wealth Development staff member in order to be considered. A complete application consists of a Youth Application and a Parent/Guardian Permission Form with all required signatures.
